Norton City Schools Announcement

To encourage student involvement and school spirit, all students enrolled in Norton City Schools (Pre-K through Grade 12) will now receive free admission to home VHSL-sanctioned events.
This free admission is a privilege and comes with the following guidelines:
Launch Date: The first event for free student admission will be Friday, October 24, at our home football game—Senior Night. Students will receive a ticket for admission to this event.

Supervision: Students in Pre-K through 7th grade must be accompanied by a paid adult.

Eligibility: Students who are currently under suspension or have been identified as truant will not receive free admission.

Winter Sports: Beginning with the winter sports season, all students will be issued a school badge displaying their identification information as a Norton City School student.

If a badge is lost, a replacement fee of $5.00 will apply.

Until the badge is replaced, the student must pay regular admission.

Event Type: Free admission applies only to regular-season home events. Admission will be charged for all post-season (tournament or playoff) events.

We look forward to seeing our students and families proudly supporting Raider athletic and academic competitions throughout the year!

This early dismissal does not affect Norton Elementary and Middle School, which will dismiss at their regular time.
Thank you.

Norton City Schools Clarifies Historical Employment Referenced in Recent News Report

Norton, Virginia — Norton City Schools is aware of a report published today by regional news outlets regarding a former teacher who was recently sentenced on narcotics-related charges. The report indicates that the individual worked for our school division but does not specify the dates of employment nor the significant time gap between her time of employment and her criminal actions.

To clarify: while the individual named in the report was formerly employed by Norton City Schools, her employment ended in 2002. She has had no affiliation or employment relationship with the school division in the more than two decades since.

Some language in the report may imply a more recent or ongoing association with Norton City Schools. We are issuing this statement to clarify the public record and ensure the community is accurately informed about this individual’s employment.

We remain committed to transparency and will provide any additional updates if necessary.

Due to a road closure on Kentucky Avenue, our buses cannot drop off students on that route. Parents of students who ride a bus on that route will need to contact the school immediately for alternate arrangements. This does not impact other routes.
