CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION DIRECTOR - School Board Office

Terms of employment:
Begins July 2024 - two-year state-funded initiative

Job Details:
This position is part of the ALL IN Spending Plan 2023-2026 and is currently approved for funding from the State Budget-Virginia Department of Education for 2024-2026.

Job Qualifications: 

  • Preferred: Master’s Degree in Educational Administration or Curriculum and Instruction and a professional license with endorsements in Administration and Supervision PK-12.
  • Preferred: Minimum three (3) years of Academic Leadership experience as an Administrator in a Public School Division.

 Responsibilities: 

  • The position is responsible for directing the development, implementation, and coordination of curriculum and instructional programs to ensure all instructional initiatives are aligned PK-12.
  • The position is responsible for coordinating professional learning for the division PK-12.

  • Lead and provide direction for the division’s literacy program- The Virginia Literacy Act and the All-In Initiative directed by the Virginia Department of Education.

  • Responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Comprehensive Instructional Program (CIP) and submitting comparative, disaggregated student assessment data reports to administrators and teachers while initiating best practices professional development opportunities following these reports. 

  • Manage the Title I Federal Grant and oversee implementation of program/personnel.

  • Serves as the central office contact and liaison with families and the community regarding the district’s instructional programs. 

  • Encourages and coordinates cross-content integrated opportunities for an instructional program that may include oral language, fluency, reading, writing, math, science, social studies, STEM, service learning, social-emotional development, and instructional technology. 

  • The position serves as a resource for elementary/middle and high school instructional administrators and specialists. Can assist administrators in evaluating the effectiveness of instructional methods and programs and recommend revisions and improvements as needed.

  • Visits division school classrooms regularly to ensure consistency of what is taught from school to school and teacher to teacher in partnership with administrators.

  • Provides guidance in selecting instructional resources, materials, and equipment for the program and will oversee the textbook adoption process.

  • Assist the human resources department with the interviewing process.

  • Complete two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
  • Obtain an associate’s (or higher) degree; or
  • Meet a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing, readiness, and mathematics readiness).
