7-day Quarantine Option Effective 11/1/21

Norton City Schools Letterhead

Effective November 1, 2021; the LENOWISCO Health District will allow the shortened 7-day quarantine
as an option for all K-12 students.

What is the 7-day quarantine?
Unvaccinated individuals who are exposed to COVID-19 outside of their household may return to school on Day 8 if they have a negative PCR or antigen test performed on or after day 5 from their exposure, AND they have no symptoms. It is imperative that symptoms are continually monitored for 14 full days following exposure and students should avoid large gatherings and wear a mask around others (in and out of school).

Unvaccinated individuals who have ongoing household exposure may return to school 8 days following the positive household member’s last day of isolation, with the aforementioned caveats.

With the 7-day strategy, the residual post-quarantine transmission risk is estimated to be about 5% with an upper limit of about 12%.

Test Results
The local health departments will be unable to verify any negative results for the schools unless the student was tested by them and the parent/guardian has given permission to share their results.

This letter is notification for this upcoming change - EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 1, 2021.

There is still the need to adhere to strict monitoring of symptoms and mask wearing for 14 days. The 7-day option is not without risk and students may have a negative test and no symptoms on day 8 and still have COVID-19.

If the LENOWISCO Health District sees additional surges they may recommend putting a pause on the 7-day option until a spread decline is achieved again.

Sincerely,

Dr. Gina J. Wohlford
